The Cage

What life brings is not always what we expect.
You raised the roof with that teenage rage.
I answered in terms not uncertain.
You believe that you must live in a cage,
And that you’re hidden behind a curtain.
Listen to me, get past all that hurting.
This is life, this will pass; it’s just a stage.
Stop shouting at me and do stop blurting
Out each word as capitals on a page.

I am older, and so much wiser now,
Than when I was walking in those same shoes.
You will grow in ways you cannot see now.
There are so many things you get to choose.
Let us, you and I, make a sacred vow
Before the love we have, is one we lose.
