Cricket: England in Complete Contol

Kevin Pietersen's sublime 142 has put England in a dominant position against Sri Lanka in the second Test at Edgbaston.
Kevin Pietersen's brilliant hundred set up England's push for victory over Sri Lanka in the second Test at Edgbaston and the tourists will need a miracle if they are to repeat the heroics of Lord's and save this second Test Match.

Pietersen's magnificent 142 included three sixes and 20 fours and was made to look all the more remarkable given that no other batsman has scored more than 30 in this match.

Sri Lanka struggled to get going in their second innings and two wickets apiece for Matthew Hoggard and Monty Panesar has left them reeling on 85 for four, still trailing England by 69 runs.

The tourists had bowled reasonably well to restrict England to 295 all out. Muttiah Muralitharan was typically dangerous and took six wickets but his effort was eclipsed by the magnificent Pietersen.

When the 25-year-old's innings came to an end, the home side suffered a dramatic collapse, losing their remaining five wickets for just five runs.
