The Need for a Guru in today’s day and age!
Probably the most used phrase in the universe today would be, ’It’s easier said than done’; in a world that thrives on advise of some sort, it is no wonder that each one of us loves to be that someone who can lend a piece of something that costs practically nothing…Advise!
The Guru
He/ she comes in all shapes and sizes. And in different colours too! There have been several channels that talk about Religion and people who can guide you smoothly in this transition called life! But there are few that are really genuine to that effect. It’s easy to quote from texts and allow you to understand life, but my question is; is life all that complicated? Or is it that we are necessarily trying to drag in complexities for a ‘Guru’ to guide us through?! I’ve noticed that each text teaches you the same thing, though through various different words! Some say it with parables and others quote live examples to make things more clear.
I’ve asked a lot many oldies this same question time and time again, ‘Why is it that we need someone more experienced (read as learned) to tell you what you need to do in life?’ Most of them say the very same thing, that you need a guiding force to teach you even the simplest of factors!
Learning the ropes
In life we’ve been through a variety of phases, some good and some bad. What we fail to remember is the existence of the Almighty in times of merry making. Few of us remember to thank him. I don’t blame you as many a time I tend to forget as well! Most times these new age ‘Gurus’ say the same thing over and over again. ‘To live life to the fullest, count your blessings, do good, kindness begets kindness, etc., etc.’ The more simple the method, the better the effect! But do we really require them to tell us what we should already know. What we really need and what these ’Gurus’ actually preach is in one sentence to bring in a dash of discipline in life.
I’ve noticed over a period of time, that this is one thing that always allows you to do numerous other odd errands that you’ve probably wanted to do in a long time! You’ll obviously feel that you are running after time since initially it’s a little difficult to walk along with the hands of the clock. Another thing I’ve realised time and over again; something I feel is the real reason why we need a Guru, is the occurrence of our own doing.
The pace at which time flies, we seldom realize that while we exist in this world, we also spend a large part of our lives in hunting for shortcuts to whatever it is we seek to achieve. We’ve practically got everything under the snappiest spell.
From instant food, to instant coffee, what we are also looking at is believe it or not, instant advise!! Being accustomed to acquiring everything instantly, it’s not surprising to note that each instant piece of advise is like a vicious cycle; it brings you back to the same routine from where you began! Whatever do I mean? I‘ll explain. The Guru teaches you to be good, to speak well of others, to respect each other’s company as man and wife, in short to be all the things that need both time and patience! Both things that require presence of mind and peace, something that is never found in an instant.
With a large fan following for people who flock to ‘optimistic Healing Centres’ I have this one simple piece of advise, something that most scriptures speak of time and again; Treat your Conscience as your God!’, coz it will never fail you! It’s interesting to note the various examples that Guru’s being guru’s speak of, but allow these examples to fructify under your supervision to have a wholesome and satisfying life! Amen to that!
