"Untouched by an Earthquake"

Our granddaughter, Jolena, and her husband, Heath Adams, US Air Force, were stationed in Turkey right before the war was declared in Iraq. Soon after her arrival in Turkey, Jolena started working as a life guard at a pool that summer. While at work one day at the end of June she began to hear a loud noise that sounded much like a plane breaking the sound barrier; then everything started to shake. Everyone around her began to panic when the water splashed in the pool from an earthquake she later found to be a 6.3 on the Richter scale. Swimmers were desperately trying to get out of the water to find some place of safety and children clung to Jolena and screamed in fear. Everywhere people were hollering, but Jolena said she felt a peace and a calm come over her. She started praying in a loud voice, pleading the Blood of Jesus over the Air Force Base and over the people there. Suddenly, everyone around her became perfectly quiet and began listening to her pray. No one on the Base was seriously hurt, but just five minutes from there, apartment buildings had collapsed and over a thousand people were killed in the quake. Heath was at work as he watched the wall of a building completely crumble and fall to the street.

Everyday Jolena and Heath had been praying Psalm 91 protection over their home, and it certainly paid off. The Base had a great deal of structural damage; the PX and the gym were completely lost and many of the houses were destroyed. Not only were houses destroyed, but furniture, TVs and stereos were ruined, as well, causing literally thousands of dollars worth of damage. Many of the houses had such huge cracks from the earthquake you could actually see through the walls. One block from their home the staircase had completely separated from the wall. Their miracle was that, other than one tiny crack over one of the doorways, there was not one bit of damage to their house or to any of their furnishings. While many of their friends had to move out of their homes so they could be repaired, Jolena and Heath didn’t have to go through any of that. God wants us to take seriously His Promise that we do not have to fear destruction, it will not approach us.
