Paris Hilton's Too Hot for TV

Activist groups are crying foul about Paris Hilton’s new television commercial hawking Carl’s Jr.’s burgers.

Paris Hilton’s new commercial for the burger chain Carl’s Jr.’s is being deemed too hot for TV by family groups who want the commercial yanked from the airwaves. Melissa Caldwell, the Parents Television Council’s research director, said, "This commercial is basically soft-core porn. It’s inappropriate for television." The group and its million-plus members plan to protest the ad and want the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) to declare the ad "indecent."

The 30-second ad shows Hilton wearing a skimpy black bathing suit as she washes a Bentley, suggestively sudsing herself and the car, while eating a Carl’s Jr.’s Spicy BBQ Burger. During the ad she says, "That’s hot." A 60-second commercial debuted on www.spicyparis.com last week and there were so many hits that the web site crashed for about four hours. Brad Haley, Carl's Jr.'s executive vice president of marketing, said of the crash, "It was a mixed blessing. It turned out Paris was too hot for our servers."

Haley said of hiring Paris for the spot, "Paris was chosen to star in the ad because she is an intriguing cultural icon and the ‘it girl’ of the moment. She fascinates Carl’s Jr.’s most loyal customers, ‘young, hungry guys,’ as well as ‘young hungry, gals.’" Haley and the people of Carl’s Jr.’s may find the heiress intriguing, but no doubt she doesn’t even know what that means. In the past, Hugh Hefner, the founder of Playboy, and several of his "playmates" have appeared in ads for the burger company. Seems as if Carl’s Jr.’s likes to keep it a little on the "racy" side…that’s hot!
