OverCome Part One
She never wanted to be with him, and she doesn't want to solve his problems, or even help him with his problems, for that matter, because she has FAR too many for herself. But when her problem gets out of hand, who saves her?
Christine slung her black Tripp backpack over her right shoulder and started walking toward the school door. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Devlin, with his normal group of friends. As she walked by, she saw his gaze flicker toward her, but it quickly left and refocused on the people that were coming his way. Christine scowled when some preppy skanks came up to Devlin and started to flirt extraneously. Rolling her eyes, she muttered "whores" under her breath, and she made her dramatic exit out of the building. While she walked down the sidewalk, she took out her vampire ring from her pocket and slipped it on. It was made out of metal, but it was the color black, her favorite color, besides electric blue. Smiling sheepishly, she continued walking until she came to her house. She only lived about two minutes from the high school, which was an advantage because she got to sleep in in the morning. Most kids she knew had to wake up extra early just to get there in time for class. But not Christine, all she needed was a half an hour to get ready and about two minutes just to get to school. It was basically in her backyard. A fence was all that separated her yard from the schools. But jumping over fences with Tripps wasn’t the smartest idea to do.
Turning around at the sliding glass door at the back of her house, Christine stared at the group that had just walked out of the building. Telling by the clothes they were wearing, and by the bright red eye shadow that was on one of the guys, it was Devlin and his group. Consisting of all black, they were like an inkblot moving swiftly to the black Volvo that was parked in the lot. Shaking her head, Christine stuck up her middle finger to the group, a group that was just like her group. Devlin’s group was one of the "Gothic" cliques, just like Christine’s, except that his was more widely known then hers. Before she got a chance to close the sliding glass door, she heard the Volvo’s engine rev and then streak away. "Panzees." She said quietly to herself as she threw her backpack on the couch.
Taking up the remote, Christine turned on the DVD player and popped in Howl’s Moving Castle. She had always loved watching anime, ever since she was ten years old. Her first anime she had ever watched was called Yu Yu Hakusho. Her favorite character was Youko Kurama, the swift fox demon bandit. With his blazing silvery hair, and his piercing golden, honey brown eyes, he was stunning in his demon form. He had five tails that flowed perfectly with the wind, and his over powering sapphire eyes stopped anything in their path. Christine was nearly drooling over him every time he came on the TV screen. But then when Youko turned into his human form, the half fire half ice demon, Hiei, accompanied him, she was started drooling over him as well. As she watched Howl change into a winged demon and watched him soar in the air, with Sophie in his arms, Christine’s mind went to her friend Elizabeth. Was she all right? Was she doing okay over at Devlin’s house? Her mind could only wonder so far.

Elizabeth was in the corner sucking face with one of Devlin’s best friends, Damien. He had jet-black hair, with alarming dark green streaks. Behind his closed lids, Damien’s chocolate brown eyes could pull you in for hours on end. Liz’s hands tangled within Damien’s black and green hair, pulling him closer. Her lips danced with his as his right arm, which had a blue dragon tattoo on it, curled around Liz’s waist.
Devlin looked upon his best friend and his "prey" in the corner. Smiling smugly, he revealed very bright, white teeth, making them sparkle in the strobe lights that were located on the ceiling. He waited for about thirty more seconds before he started to walk over to the kissing couple in the corner. Taking Liz by the arm, he pulled her away from Damien’s lips and into another dark, depressing corner. "Dude, what the fuck?" Elizabeth cursed, putting her hands on his chest and attempting to push him away, but it was a no go. He didn’t even budge an inch. "Liz, what did I tell you about tonight?" He whispered menacingly. "You said that you wanted me to bring Christine with." "Yes, I did. And did I tell you the consequence if she didn’t come with you?" "You pry did, I just wasn’t listening." Liz confessed solemnly. "I said I would damn you to a nighttime of darkness, and I would kill your little boy toy, who I know you like very, very much."

Christine called Liz’s cell again, but only to get her answering machine once again. "Guess who you reached! Yeah, that’s right! It’s Liz! If you leave a message, and I get it, I shall call you back!" She waited for the beeps to end and then she started to record her message. "FUCK YOU! I swear if I ever get a hold of you, I’m going to ring your throat for not answering your fucking phone! I mean, Liz, honestly, what’s the point in even having one if you never answer? When I get to you, I’m going to slit your throat and watch you bleed!" Christine slammed her phone shut and threw it across the room. "AHHH!" She screamed out in rage and frustration.
Pacing the floor, she thought of everyone she knew and who was the most likely person to know where Devlin was hosting his party. Then she thought of her other very good friend Richard, who was also a very close friend of Devlin and Liz. Running to retrieve her phone from the other side of the room, she dialed Richie’s number. "Hello?" His deep voice answered calmly. "Hey, you wouldn’t by any chance know where Devlin’s party is being held today, would ya?" Christine asked. "Chris, I thought you didn’t like Devlin, let alone like his parties that he hosts. Why do you want to know?" He shot back teasingly. "I don’t want to go to his party! I want to know where Liz is!" She screamed back, almost crushing the phone because of how hard she was holding it in her hand. "Yeah sure Chris. Perhaps you just want to know because you are secretly lovers with him." "RICH! UGH! EWW! How could you ever even… THINK THAT!? Is your mind in the gutter tonight? Just tell me god dammit!" Chris commanded. "Wow, you really must be pissed because you just used the Lord’s name in vain." "Go fuck yourself!" "Fine, gosh, its 1234 lover lane." Richard teased. "Just tell me and maybe… just maybe… I’ll admit that I hate him." "Heh, I’ll remind Chad that he gets to stab you." "Fine go for it, now tell me!" "Its on George Ave. South, the house address is 2186." "Thanks, later!"
Chris hung up the phone and grabbed her black trench coat, heading for her black BMW. Started up the engine, she zoomed down the road, toward Devlin’s party. She reached the house in less then five minutes. Slamming the car door, she pulled her coat tight around her body, making sure that none of her regular clothes weren’t visible. Knocking on the door, she waited impatiently for someone to answer. When the door opened, Christine saw a guy with pink hair, like her own colored bangs. "Hey girl friend!" He shrieked loudly. "Umm… whatever." Chris replied as she pushed past him and into the crowded living room. Looking around she searched for Liz. Her purple bangs would give her away very easily, so she searched through all the hair.
Christine’s head turned as she heard a door open and close, and from that door, came a very pale Liz. When Liz spotted her, her eyes lit up, like a fire of brightness Chris had never seen before. "Christine!" Liz yelled, racing over to meet her friend, and pulled her into a hug. When Liz pulled away, her gaze lingered on Christine’s neck uncharacteristically. "Wow, you’re really… pale. You weren’t this pale before, were you?" Christine asked, looking skeptically at her friend. "Maybe I’m just a little tired, or perhaps I’ve had one too many drinks." Liz quickly covered. "Sure, whatever you say, I guess." "Hey, before we go, I have someone that would love to meet you!" "Umm… ok?" Christine said, as Liz dragged her friend into the dark room she has just emerged from. Closing the door behind them, Liz pushed Christine forward, into the darkness. Then Liz left the room, leaving Chris alone in pitch-black darkness.
Welcome, I have been waiting for you." A smooth, deep voice came from the corner. Christine could not see whom the voice was coming from; it was way too dark to see anything. "Who’s there?" She asked. "The one that you detest the most out of all the humans." Came the reply. "Devlin?" She whispered. "Heh, you’re good at this game." He stepped forward into the only light in the room, which was ominously coming from the ceiling. "What the fuck do you want?" His mischievous smile reached his ears, and his black eyes held contact with hers. Suddenly, he disappeared and reappeared right in front of her. "I have been anticipating this moment for some time now." He said silkily. "What do you mean?" she managed to say. "Every time you have felt as if you were being watched, you were. I have been watching out for you. Making sure nothing harmed you. Not letting you out of my site for long." A frown formed on Christine’s shocked face, and she shoved Devlin away with all of her might.
Then she ran for the door, and found Liz, right outside, in the arms of Damien. "How could you do that to me?" She screamed at Liz, "You know how much I hate him!" Liz turned to face her, her face paler than ever, and she looked as if she had been crying into Damien’s chest. "I know. I’m so sorry, but he made me do it!" Liz said quietly. Then Chris felt cold hands on her shoulders. She stiffened under the pressure. "Leaving so soon?" Came Devlin’s voice. "Yeah, it’s late, I should be getting home to do my homework." She remarked sarcastically. "Peh, remember how I told you that I had been watching you? Well you do not do your homework." Christine pulled away and turned to face him. "Fuck off!" Then she ran out the door.

Liz came out of the room, without Christine, and collapsed into Damien’s arms. "She’s gunna hate me after this, I just know it!" Damien wrapped his arms around her, trying to comfort her as much as he could. "No, she won’t. She loves you a lot, Elizabeth, and you know it." Damien whispered in her ear. "I know, but I can’t help but sense this odd feeling that she is going to hate me." "Since when did you get odd feelings?" Damien demanded, "Devlin didn’t do anything to you, did he?" "He changed me! I couldn’t stop him! And he was going to kill you! But Chris came just in time! He sensed her walk through the door! Then he made me go and get her, and bring her to him!" "Why does he want to see her so badly?" "Because he wants her. He’s been watching her since her freshman year. He’s taken an interest. "
~*~*~*~
Where on earth have you been? You had your father and I worried sick!" Christine’s mother screamed. "Aw, pipe down! I was just with Liz!" Then she stormed off to her room and blasted Marilyn Manson. Then she walked quickly to her closet, and grabbed her box of sharp objects. Taking out the sharpest razor she possessed, she put the box back and walked to a corner of her room. Placing her butt on the soft blue carpet, she put the razorblade to her skin. She pressed down hard, and watched as the blood pooled in the incision. As she ran the blade over her arm again, she felt the rush of pain that had always soothed her. Then she brought her arm up to her mouth, and licked the blood away. As she did this, her problems with Liz and her parents seemed to melt away, and she became separated from everything and everyone.
