Scott Weiland’s Road to Recovery Blocked
Scott Weiland’s attempt at getting his life back together has hit a brick wall with his most recent arrest for possession of heroin.
Ex-Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland was arrested a little before midnight on Saturday May 17 after being pulled over for driving without his lights on and officers noticed an alleged drug stash in the vehicle. Weiland and an unidentified woman were arrested for suspicion of possession of illegal drugs. He posted $10,000 bond and was released around 5:30 the next morning. Weiland’s arraignment is scheduled for June 2.
Weiland recently signed on as frontman for the Guns N’ Roses "fueled" band Reloaded and has been trying to get his life in order. I guess he wasn’t trying hard enough. Drama has plagued Weiland since the start of his career. He has been in and out of rehab after his 1995 arrest for possession of cocaine and heroin. Finally, after continuous relapses, Weiland’s bandmates gave up and formed their own group, Talk Show. Since then, Weiland went solo in 1998, was busted trying to buy heroin, sentenced to another mandatory stint in a drug treatment program and counseling, overdosed on heroin in 1999, and ended up spending a year in jail. He then cleaned up his act and re-united with his ex-bandmates, but was again busted for battery charges against his then-wife, Mary. Mary Weiland filed for divorce last fall and hopes to retain custody of their two small children. With Daddy’s track record, it doesn’t seem like that will be a problem.
What’s the deal with these rockers ruining their lives with the drugs? It is a disease, but is the ride to the top that bad? His private life is a mess, but he seemed to have something going with the new band, Reloaded. The band contributed an original song, "Set Me Free," to the not-yet-released Hulk soundtrack and is slated to release a full-length album next February. Weiland needs to get his life in order before he gets kicked out of another band or worse yet, ends up dead. Maybe this latest arrest with wake him up to the realization that he is not invincible and he can still turn his life around in a positive direction.
