Boxing: Wright's Punch-perfect Display Teaches Trinidad a Lesson

Ronald "Winky" Wright produced the outstanding display of his long career as he handed the former world champion Félix Trinidad a boxing lesson in a middleweight non-title fight in front of more than 14,000 fans at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The 33-year-old southpaw has long been one of boxing's avoided fighters, having to travel all over the world, including Britain, to make a living. But he will have belatedly earned universal respect with a display against the heavy-handed Puerto Rican that was almost punch perfect.
One of the ringside judges scored the fight 120-107 to Wright, meaning he had won every round in addition to the deduction of a point away from Trinidad for a low blow. The other two scores were 119-108 in Wright's favour in a verdict that made nonsense of odds that had Trinidad as the 4-7 favourite.
Wright's brilliant jab and tight defence were the decisive factors and he described his night's work as "a complete victory".
Asked if he would fancy a fight against the winner of the July world middleweight title fight between the champion Bernard Hopkins and Jermain Taylor, Wright replied: "Hell, yes."
Trinidad had been Don King's star attraction, with the biggest support base for his pay-per-view shows coming from the Hispanic community. The 73-year-old King's bad weekend had started on Friday when a Nevada court ordered him to pay $5m (£2.7m) to the promoter Art Pellulo after the court found that King had illegally interfered with Pellulo's contract with the WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz five years ago.
On the MGM undercard, the WBA, WBC and IBF welterweight champion Zab Judah comfortably retained his belts by stopping Cosme Rivera of Mexico in the third round.
