General: Ramble On
Random thoughts about the NBA and NHL playoffs, the Red Sox's celebrity status and Bryon Nelson.
Grrrr Lakers...
Yes, I'm a Los Angeles Lakers-hater. I'm probably one of the few people in Southern California that hasn't jumped on the purple and yellow bandwagon. I made a bet at work that the San Antonio Spurs would take the series in 6. However, after Thursday's game, that bet is lost. Much to my dismay, I think the Lakers will win this series despite the battle of egos on that team.
I hope the New Jersey Nets will continue their demolition of the Pistons in Detroit tomorrow night. Jason Kidd snapped out of his so-called slump to score 22 points in Game 4. With Kidd leading the way, Lawrence Frank will make Larry Brown eat his words.
Hopefully, the Sacramento Kings can pull some offense together for their Game 5 Friday night. Chris Webber, leading the Kings with 28 points despite the horrible offense by both Sacramento and Minnesota, is proving that he is a vital asset to the team and back in the swing of things. Now, if only Peja Stojakovic can get back his groove.
Well TNT "knows drama" and all of the playoff series have been filled with it, which makes for increased television ratings despite having to listen to Bill Walton discuss his son's supposed relationship with Britney Spears.
Puck Thoughts...
To be honest, after the New Jersey Devils lost and the Colorado Avalanche dropped off, I really don't care about who wins the Stanley Cup. I flip on a game if it's on, but I don't have the hockey passion this year. I would like to see Calgary win because I think it's about time a Canadian team wins again. Also seeded seventh in their conference, their Cinderella story makes it easy to jump on the bandwagon.
As for the Eastern Conference, I'm completely indifferent. Although Jeremy Roenick, "JR," has those great "Rooming with Roenick" commercials, I'm happy to see Dave Andreychuk, former Devil, leading the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hopefully, Tampa Bay will gain some respect in the hockey world, as will the San Jose Sharks and the run they're making this season.
Curse of HBO...
Now I know why the Boston Red Sox have no good luck. They have specials on HBO narrated by Ben Affleck, with commentary by Mike O'Malley. Didn't O'Malley host Global Guts a few years back? Apparently, Boston is becoming the Lakers of baseball, Hollywood's team. I know, after "Gigli" and "Forces of Nature," Ben is looking to revive his career, but I don't think sports are a way to go. Don't even think about the next "SportsCenter" anchor. Another point for Matt Damon.
Music Tip...
Looking for some great rock music? Try the one-night stand rock 'n' roll band, Bullets N Octane. Hits from this Huntington Beach, California, rock band, such as "Pirates" or "Want it All" is guaranteed to fire up any clubhouse. Anything to get rid of William Hung.
Skills Man...
At age 92, Bryon Nelson is still looking tough. The golf legend, who was the winner of 54 official events, including five major championships, hosts the PGA's Bryon Nelson Championship this weekend. His stories and presence are an inspiration to all golfers and fans. Hopefully, he will continue to share his knowledge and passion for the sport for many years to come.
"I will say that at this stage of my life, at 92 years of age, I never dreamed in my wildest imagination of anything like this ever happening," Nelson said. "Naturally, I'm extremely honored and pleased, but I'll admit that I've still been busy in 92 years, so I think it kind of shows (in the display)."
Any random thoughts: email, devilgirl30365@yahoo.com. No, I am not a Satan worshipper, but a New Jersey Devils fan, even after the disappointing playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers. Go Brodeur!
