Kim Delaney Enters Rehab

Actress Kim Delaney checked herself into an Arizona rehab facility for treatment of alcohol abuse.
Delaney’s publicist, Joy Limanon, stated, "Due to a stressful year, Delaney made the decision to enter a relapse prevention program, as staying healthy is very important to her." Life imitates art. Delaney’s character on NYPD Blue, Diane Russell, was a recovering alcoholic as well. Delaney returns this week to NYPD Blue.

Delaney has had a touchy year. In January 2002, she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after another motorist witnessed her erratic driving behavior. Delaney has maintained that she was not drinking and driving and did not submit to any tests requested by the arresting officers. Delaney pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving. Prosecutors had to reduce the charge due to a lack of evidence. Delaney walked away with 2 years probation, a $300 fine, and had to attend driver's education classes.

Add to that the cancellation of Delaney’s show Philly after season one. Delaney then joined the cast of CSI: Miami along with another NYPD Blue alum, David Caruso. Producers were hoping that Delaney and Caruso would have great chemistry and match the chemistry of CSI’s William Petersen and Marge Helgenberger. That didn’t work out and she was canned after only 10 episodes. Maybe it was the combination of all of these stresses that caused Delaney to seek comfort in the bottle. At least she’s getting help now, before she decides to get back on the Pacific Coast Highway after drinking again.
