Practice is the "Answer"
Allen Iverson's press conference a few days ago sent shockwaves through the NBA and the city of Philadelphia. Will Iverson ever mature?
"Practice makes perfect" to quote the great Vince Lombardi.
Unfortunately for Larry Brown, Allen Iverson must not of heard of the man.
Just a few days ago, in Iverson's highly publicized press conference, he made a mockery of practice. Making pokes at it saying practice doesn't hurt him or his teammates.
Well as much as I think he's one of the elite players in the league right now, Iverson is terribly wrong.
Last year nobody cared if he went to practice because they went to the NBA Championships. This year was a different story, getting knocked out in the first round by the Boston Celtics.
Iverson asked if he came in all bulked up, would they just hand him the MVP award next year? Well Mr. Iverson, nobody wants you to look like a bodybuilder. Brown and the Philly fans would just like you healthy for a full season.
Not working out during the offseason contributed to little injuries that shouldn't happen. Granted the broken hand was a freak accident, but what about the others?
My biggest problem isn't even with that, however. It's with the fact he thinks he's above practice because he's the franchise player. That's just a joke. John Elway, Michael Jordan, and Wayne Gretzsky never took practices off, especially without telling the coach.
The least you could do is phone Brown and let him know you won't be there. That's what normal folks like to call "being considerate."
And if Allen doesn't think practice will help him, well sitting at home while every other superstar on every team is busting there butts of in a practice, sure isn't the answer.
Ok, so he doesn't have the greatest supporting cast. Well, if you went to practice maybe your team could gel a little bit.
Look at the Detroit Pistons. They aren't even that good, but they are a team. Iverson and the Sixers this year was more like watching the walking wounded, with Iverson throwing up 35 shots a game.
I don't disagree about him taking 35 shots, but if you want that many shots, how about you go to practice so you can make a higher percentage.
Iverson you are not a great player, you are a good player that can be a Hall of Famer, but you must not care for to achieve that honor because you refuse to work for it.
I wonder if Iverson has any trouble looking at himself in the mirror the day after a loss. Not because he didn't give it all on the court the night before, but because he didn't prepare himself in the days before for the game.
Probably not. I must be dreaming of a world where people go to the job for what they are paid. Example, no lawyer just shows up on the day of a case. He does his research so he can come in prepared and do the best for his client.
Well Mr. Iverson, your client is the Sixers. For once in your career stop blabbing about how you don't even know what you're going to do, but that God only knows, and go to practice and give people a reason to praise you all year long.
