Calvin Klein in Rehab
It has been reported that famous designer Calvin Klein is "seeking treatment for a substance-abuse problem."
This was announced two weeks after an incident at New York’s Madison Square Garden where Klein, 60, approached Knicks star Latrell Sprewell as he was about to "inbound the ball." Klein apparently attempted to chat to Sprewell, play was interrupted briefly, and Klein was led back to his seat by security. Sprewell has since said that Klein was "trying to say something, but he was just mumbling." A source says that alcohol, not pills, has been the cause of Klein’s dewagoning. The source also says what happened at the Knick’s game was "almost divine intervention…long term, may be the best thing that ever happened to him."
Klein had a brief stay at the Hazeldon Institute in Minnesota, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinic, in 1988. After his bizarre incident at Madison Square Garden, Klein stated, "For many years, I’ve been able to successfully address my substance-abuse issues, which for anyone is a lifelong process, through strict adherence to counseling and regular attendance at meetings. However, when I recently stopped attending meetings regularly, I suffered a set back. Fortunately, I was lucky with the help of others to recognize the problem."
Klein’s publicist has remained mum on details including where the treatment will take place. Klein said, "I’m again getting the treatment I need to resume a healthy and productive lifestyle." Since Phillips-Van Heusen acquired his company last December, Klein has continued working at Calvin Klein, Inc. Maybe he is bored and turned back to the bottle (or whatever else he may be consuming). No one seems quite sure just what his role is at Calvin Klein, Inc. Maybe he can help design a rehab line with celebrity endorsements by Billy Joel, Matthew Perry, and Robert Downey Jr.
