England: The Rich History of Oxford

Studying at Oxford University does not necessarily require an impressive academic pedigree; some intellectual curiosity and a fat checkbook will suffice.
The mere mention of the name Oxford, particularly for English-speakers, carries with it all sorts of ideas and images that encapsulate the feel of a bygone age. One thinks of stuffy British academics and also of the Imperial age which spawned them. Indeed, the Oxford of today still does reflect this past. And fortunately, there are many opportunities to explore this historic institution and the town of the same name in which it lies. The university sponsors a week-long summer program called the Oxford Experience, in which intellectually inclined travelers can chose from a list of courses on British history to study for the week which they spend living and studying at the grand institution of higher learning. While it is not quite the same as spending one’s entire academic career within Oxford’s wall, the experience affords one the opportunity to discover what it might be like to actually do so. The buildings and grounds are grand, the atmosphere is rich, the food is bland and the dormitories are bleak and Spartan.

Also of interest, and this to no lesser extent, is the town of Oxford, itself. Oxford boasts a rich history, which it wears gracefully and which can be seen and felt around every corner. Countless British literary luminaries have gone out of their way to extol the beauty and charm which pervades into everything in this town of Imperial splendor.

So, if the non-conventional vacation entices you, look into taking advantage of the insights participating in the Oxford Experience provides you with.
