NCAA: Duke - The team America loves to hate
There have been too many sports articles blasting away at the National Champs, and I hate it. Scott Willyerd gets loose with some candid anaylsis on Duke's Championship.
It has now been about a week after the Duke Blue Devils were named the National Champions of College Basketball, and they are still being bombarded with ridiculous statements about their National Championship. Even on e-sports.com we have come to this. Author of the Month Matt Zemek asked this question in a current article: "The question has essentially loomed over the college game all season long: does Duke and that perfect student-athlete, Mr. Battier, get all the calls from the refs?"
In another article on e-sports.com, Senior Writer Stephen Baker has this to summary for his article Advantage Duke? “The Blue Devils might be masters of the court in more ways than one. Controlling the refs seems to be part of the winning game plan.”
That article breaks down percentages, and number of free throws and how Duke supposedly has an advantage every game. Well, I am here to tell you, I don’t by it. I have listened to numerous sports talk shows, and fans have eagerly filleted and fast food the Duke Blue Devils after they won their National Championship. What angers me is, these articles that have been written about referees have a twist that makes it out like Duke is to blame.
“Does Duke and that perfect student-athlete, Mr. Battier, get all the calls from the refs?”
Why don’t you ask the referees that than pulling Duke’s National Championship through the mud. One statistic that people fail to realize is that Duke was 35-4, and by far had the best record of any Division I school. The only loses that this program had were to Stanford by 1, UNC by 2, Virginia by 2, and the first game that Carlos Boozer was out against Maryland, and they lost by 11.
What I don’t understand is why people can say that “Duke isn’t the real National Champions.” Feel free to try and tell me that a 35-4 record isn’t good enough for the National Championship.
