Motor Racing: Hill Named to Succeed Stewart in Brdc Hot Seat

Former formula one world champion Damon Hill has been nominated to succeed Jackie Stewart as president of the British Racing Drivers' Club.
Damon Hill has been nominated to succeed Jackie Stewart as president of the British Racing Drivers' Club, the owner of Silverstone, after Stewart's decision not to seek re-election.

Hill, 45, who won the drivers' world championship in 1996, would be only the second formula one title-holder to hold the position in the BRDC's 78-year history, following the three-times champion Stewart. His nomination has been unanimously approved by the board of directors and that choice now has to be endorsed by a vote of the members at the club's AGM on April 28. "I hope the members give Damon their full support in working with the board in the best interests of the club," said Stewart.

Hill would find himself in the hot seat at a difficult time. A group of dissident members have been trying to force through a vote of no confidence in the board, which plans a redevelopment of the circuit with which they disagree.
