Kelly Osbourne, the teenage daughter of heavy metal star Ozzy Osbourne, has gone into a drug rehabilitation centre after admitting to a painkillers addiction, her parents told American TV viewers this weekend.

The 19-year-old singer's brother, Jack, who is a year younger, checked himself into a similar clinic last year and Ozzy has been candid about his own decades of substance abuse. Kelly's boyfriend, musician Bert McCracken, is also a former drug addict.

The Osbournes became internationally known through the successful MTV reality show named after them. The show starring the loving but dysfunctional family returns on 6 April for a third season.

Former Black Sabbath singer Ozzy, 55, and Sharon, 51, talked about their daughter's drug problem on CNN's Larry King Live after a British tabloid newspaper told the couple it had a photograph of Kelly in an apparent drug deal. Kelly eventually acknowledged her problem 'after a lot of twisting', her mother said. Osbourne revealed the family maid had found a bag of pills beneath Kelly's bed.
