Utopia

I just felt upset over the state we're making of our earth as we're attempting to make it a "better place".
It seems as though it could all be so easy,
So simple with no hardship or difficulty,
If only we could accept the world as it is,
Without trying to destroy all that is faulty,

It's ironic that when we all gather round,
Decide the utopia should go under construction now,
That the whole world begins to fall apart,
But those who achieved this won't take a bow,

Our world was given as our very first gift,
So special and unique and perfect for us,
So when did we decide it would be best
To fill it with huge grey skyscrapers,

Is this the home we want to leave to our children?
Give birth to them into a billow of smoke,
Say our last words on a bed in a hospital corridor,
It's safe to say this is the gift that we broke...
