Jewel (formally-name Jewel Kilcher) Hurt in Horse Accident
Jewel was injured in an accident when she was thrown from her horse last Wednesday at the Texas ranch of her boyfriend, rodeo star Ty Murray.
It was reported on her website that Jewel, 27, was injured in an accident when she was thrown from her horse last Wednesday at the Texas ranch of Ty Murray. Reportedly in good condition, Jewel, formally-name Jewel Kilcher, did suffer a broken rib, collarbone and some bruises. As reported on Eonline.com, Ron Shapiro, co-president of Jewel’s record label Atlantic Records, said her injuries weren’t serious enough to warrant an ambulance. Shapiro told the Associated Press, "They’ve confirmed to me that nothing was life-threatening, but she is badly hurt."
Instead of being taken to a hospital, Murray took her to his orthopedic surgeon to be treated. Jewel will have to wear a collar and sling for approximately a month, and was ordered by the doctor not to travel for the next two weeks. The singer had to cancel plans for planned promotional tours for her new album "This Way" and the injuries may conflict with her European tour scheduled to begin May 10. Plans for her U.S. tour to begin in Tampa, Florida on June 14 are still a go and she should be fully recovered by that time.
The Alaska native is an experienced rider. Shapiro told the Associated Press, "I think it was a freak accident. She does ride horses very frequently." Her hit songs include "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "You Were Meant For Me." Her latest album, This Way, includes the hit "Standing Still" as well as the tracks "Break Me," "Long Slow Ride," and "New Wild West."
