Cruise’s publicist and sister, Lee Anne De Vette, announced in March that Cruz and Cruise had ended their three-year relationship in January of this year. As for the split, it was said that long periods apart and their careers led to the break-up. There was plenty of speculation as to what really happened. There was question of infidelity on Cruz’s part and there was also gossip that her unwillingness to convert to Scientology (Cruise’s religion of choice) was the final factor.

Sources say that Cruz now realizes that her quest for fame was the end of the relationship. She reportedly told crew members on her new movie Sahara, now filming in the African desert, that she is still in love with Tom and she is willing to do "whatever it takes" to get him back. A source says, "Penelope is still deeply in love with Tom and believes he feels the same way about her, but cannot cope with her excessive demands. She feels she has seen the light and will get him back when he realizes how much she blames herself for the break-up."

That and maybe when she can convince him that the rumors that she has been having an affair with her Sahara co-star, Matthew McConaughey, aren’t true. The rumors started shortly after cameras began rolling on the film. The source adds, Tom knows the rumors of her romance with Matthew are nonsense and Penelope is determined to spell that out to him all over again." One has to wonder if perhaps Penelope discovered that she can further her career more with Tom on her arm than Matthew. If that is the case, she may just want to make the switch to Scientology after all…
