NFL: 2001 NFL Draft Chat - Santana Moss
An interview with New York Jet Santana Moss.
Q: How relevant is size to your football playing ability?
A: It isn’t. There are a lot of football players that are my size out there now. Peter Warrick and that type of wide receiver is all over the place now and I really don’t think that it is that big of a concern. If the Jets didn’t feel that I couldn’t do the job than I wouldn’t have been drafted.
Q: How sick of it were you then?
A: I wouldn’t say I was sick of it. After a while it bothered me. When ESPN’s guy said that I would have been a top ten pick except for my size, that bothered me. I feel that talent is talent and the Jets never said word one to me about my size. They just said they want me to make plays.
Q: How different will playing in the NFL be?
A: I think the game will be faster, but other than that, it is just football. I still have to make catches, run around on punt returns, and get out and make plays. I am ready for the challenge and competing against division one-type athletes has made me ready for the NFL.
Q: Is it better to come into a winning situation like the Jets?
A: I would have been happy anywhere I was drafted. Obviously with them winning it makes it easier. They also have some great young players that I feel I can relate to very well. I am happy that they took me, regardless of what their situation is.
Q: What do you bring to the Jets?
A: Explosiveness and the ability to make plays. I think that I bring a certain ability to break things open and I think that that is a real asset for this organization.
