You Don't Understand...

A poem to my parents who never understood what she meant to me.... because I am a girl too
You tell me life is everything,
But you don't understand,
You tell me that things change,
But you don't understand,
You tell me that I will be somebody someday,
But you don't understand,
You tell me there's a rainbow after it rains,
But you don't understand,
You tell me it won't hurt to smile,
But you don't understand,

Don't understand,
I'm not you,
Life isn't my everything,
She was,
Things never change fast enough,
And when they do it always hurts,
I don't want to be anyone,
I don't need to be,
I don't want to see that rainbow,
I don't want to see tomorrow,
It does hurt to smile,
Almost as much as it hurts to breathe,

When she died,
My heart went with her,
My love died,
And so should I
