Valentino Rossi, the 22-year old from Italy might be young in terms of motorbike racing but with his carefree attitude and smooth riding skills, he is one of the most feared racers on the circuit.
At the South African Grand Prix in the World Motorcycle Championship, Rossi, the Nastro Azzuro Honda rider showed just why he is the best in the business today.
Valerossi as he is known, won in consecutive races to take his point’s tally to 50. Maximum points in the standings after just two races leaves the pack to chase in order to conquer, as he lies 23 points ahead of his nearest rival, and countryman Loris Capirossi.
Having taken pole position, and smashing the qualifying record by two seconds, the youngster made a pretty good start to the race, going through the first corner ahead of reigning world champion Kenny Roberts Junior.
Running a smooth ride helped the maestro, also nicknamed Dr. R take out the win, only dropping to third at one stage in the first third of the 28-lap race.
Late pressure by Capirossi on the West Honda Pons, pushed Rossi to breaking the race lap record by more than a second, completing the feat in the very last lap.
Rossi won by 0.6 seconds over second placed Capirossi, and 7.2 seconds over the other podium finisher Tohru Ukawa of Japan on the Repsol Honda YPF.
The phenomenon will hope to wrap up the championship come the business end of the season, to make him the first ever rider to win all three formats of the MotoGP, which consist of 125cc, 250cc and 500cc.
