BP Joins Bank in Record Solar-power Project
A Spanish bank, Santander, and BP's solar energy branch have launched what they claim is Europe's largest single investment project in solar power.
They aim to build 278 small power plants across Spain before 2008. These would jointly provide 18 to 25 megawatts - saving 37,500 tonnes of carbon emissions. The project would double Spain's total solar energy supply and could provide enough electricity to run 12,500 homes.
It was not clear whether the project would be completed before a rival 62-megawatt solar project planned for Moura in southern Portugal.
