Bad Chemistry with Jen & Ben?
Early reviews are saying that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s upcoming movie, Tough Love, shows zero chemistry between the stars.
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez’s new film Tough Love has not gotten off to a good start. The name was changed from the original Gigli to Tough Love and its release date has been pushed back a few times. The studio even had to re-shoot a new ending resulting in an additional $5 million because test audiences hated the original – where Ben’s character dies – so much. To make matters worse, there is a reported lack of chemistry between the two stars that seem to have so much chemistry off-screen. Add to that the silly story line: Thug (Affleck) kidnaps retarded brother of federal prosecutor to save his mob boss from the pen, and lesbian gangster (Lopez) is sent in to help out. Of course they fall for each other because that makes sense and then they begin to care about their prisoner. Fuggedaboutit…it’s just Chasing Amy meets The Soprano’s.
Not only is Tough Love having problems, but apparently, the test audiences for their other new film Jersey Girl didn’t even get why the two characters liked one another. Director Kevin Smith denies that there have been any rewrites for the film, but sources say that they are scrambling to try and drum up some chemistry between the two "love birds" to the tune of $3 million.
How is a couple who has been all over each other everywhere in the media not going to have chemistry on screen? As has been discussed before, there are those that totally buy the Jenny & Benny from the Block deal. Then there are those that believe it was all a publicity stunt to develop an interest in seeing their new movies. Well, so far not so good...if test audiences aren't liking the finished product and J. Lo and Mr. J. Lo spent all this time pretending to like each other – geesh! That would be a shame. But on the other hand, maybe they really are in love and will still have each other and their countless millions, even if their new movies stink.
