Nicole Kidman sent her congratulations to new mother Katie Holmes after the birth of her daughter but snubbed the baby's father, her ex-husband Tom Cruise.

Kidman released a statement through her publicist that read, "I hope mother and baby are doing well." Kidman and Cruise reportedly had a very "heated" argument after he suggested their adopted children Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11, be present in the delivery room while Holmes gave birth. Kidman allegedly slammed the suggestion because she feared the experience would "traumatize" the children. Cruise disagreed and the result is that the two are allegedly no longer speaking. The two were divorced in 2001 after almost 10 years of marriage.
Holmes and baby Suri were reportedly back at home less than 24 hours after the baby’s birth on Tuesday. Cruise described Suri’s birth as "spiritual" and "powerful" and said he and Katie were "hugging each other like we always do." Seems the happy family is now settling in. Holmes is on "mommy duty" and Cruise is back in action. He is now back on the road promoting his latest film, Mission: Impossible III.
As for the baby’s name, Suri, it was reported that the name means "princess" in Hebrew and "red rose" in Persian. Reportedly, native Hebrew speakers have said that the word "princess" is most commonly linked with the name Sarah. An announcer on Israel’s Army Radio said, "Nobody here has ever really heard of it." And on Israel’s Channel 2 TV an anchorman said, "We seem to have learned a new Hebrew word – and from Tom Cruise no less." Avshalom Koor, a Hebrew linguist, defended Cruise by saying, "Suri is a pet name for Sarah. The Ashkenazi [Jews] of Poland and Hungary pronounce it Suri." Another interesting tidbit is that Suri reportedly means "pickpocket" in Japanese.
