Pete Doherty to Rehab

Doherty appeared in court Thursday and received two years probation, 18 months of rehab, and cannot drive for six months. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of drug possession last month. Judge Jane McIvor said Doherty had "shown improvement." Said McIvor, "It’s going to be a long and slow process but you are showing significant signs of compliance and effort." The judge also made note of the fact that Doherty hadn’t been arrested in three months. Wow! Doherty’s lawyer Sean Curran said of his client, "I have noticed a significant improvement in his demeanor. He is fully appreciative of his surroundings and he is able to ask questions."

Last month Doherty pleaded guilty to possessing Class A drugs that included heroin, morphine, crack cocaine, and marijuana in both arrests that took place on December 18 and January 14. In early February he was ordered to enter a drug rehabilitation program, was sentenced to a year of community service, and ordered to take monthly mandatory drug tests for the next year. He had two "dirty" drug tests in February, yet still managed to escape jail time.

Doherty was supposed to appear in court last week on the February charges but he didn’t show up claiming he was not able to get out of Paris in time after a Babyshambles concert. Not to worry, the judge rescheduled his hearing for May 12. Doherty is also due in court on May 31 to follow up on today’s sentencing. Doherty was kicked out of the band The Libertines due to his problems with drugs. If he is not careful, he may not only get kicked out of Babyshambles, he might lose his life.
