Gay, gayer, gayest

The life, the pain and the laughter of a middle-aged gay couple...
The gay couple in their mid-forties lives next to the church in their house that is slightly bigger than the average house. They revamped it in their famed immaculate taste. The garden was redone in a friendly rain forest style with concealed fountains and water sprays. Many bird homes were brought in to contribute to a fine atmosphere of the far-East. A haven for the emotionally drained who is always welcome to relax and spend time in this exquisitely constructed break-away.

They are outspoken atheists who do not allow their adopted daughter to attend church or any church activities. The break with religion happened years ago when their well-to-do parents on both sides, refused to accept the gay relationship and disowned them. It was not an accepted lifestyle for the retired gynaecologist or the retired criminal lawyer, who would have been embarrassed to have gay children out of the closet. Years of bitterness followed for the gay couple, and they became restless and angry with God.

They are both successful in their careers, and financially comfortable with one as a sociologist who was recently promoted to Superintendent of a Rehabilitation Centre and one as the owner of a hairdressing salon. Their adopted daughter Lila is in matric. A talented young violinist who has been accepted at Stellenbosch University for a B.Mus degree in 2006, which will be ensued by further studies in London and hopefully followed by a career as concert violinist. She receives the best from her gay parents can give her who recently bought her a 2001 Toyota 1300 for her birthday. A Pajero and a Renault Clio are parked in the double garage, and their furniture is a mixture of antique and modern furniture, all in good taste.

Every third year they spend a summer holiday in Europe, the rest of their holidays are spend at their timeshare flat in Umhlanga Rocks. They enjoy life to its fullest, see all the latest film releases and attend theatre, opera and ballet regularly.

The pain is under control, but the hurt not nearly forgotten. Every day is a desperate attempt to mask the far-away past.
