Nick Lachey Talks

Lachey has spoken out in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine. When asked how he knew his marriage was over, Lachey responded, "I’ll tell you how I knew my marriage was over: I was told. I never wanted to be a divorce. I wanted us to be happy. I guess we differed on strategy."" He said he was " blindsided" when Simpson told him last November, "I think I want a divorce." Lachey said, "I basically said, ‘Please, let’s sleep on it.’ But when we woke up the next day, Wednesday, she was still sure."

Lachey admits that the split has been hard on him. He claims that in the months leading up to the split the couple wasn’t fighting. He said they endured months of "tension" before Simpson said she wanted out. He also believes the show that shot them to fame was their downfall. Said Lachey, "When you are on a reality show, your life ceases to be reality. It becomes TV. Jessica and I began playing these parts even when we were by ourselves. It became a blurred line. There was a question about what truly was our reality. During those last months, we weren’t fighting. It was just an overall state of tension. It was suffocating. And it just got worse and worse."

Lachey claims that the rumors of infidelity on Simpson’s part had a hand in their demise even though the rumored dalliances with Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, and Maroon 5 frontman were never confirmed. Lachey said he "chose to trust" Simpson and now says, "I don’t know if there were other men. But if she did cheat, it was the result of something bigger, not the reason we didn’t work." He even touches on his father-in-law. As for the rumors that Joe Simpson "orchestrated" the break-up, Lachey said, "It would be easy for me to blame my divorce on him. That would be convenient. But at the end of the day, Jessica is a grown woman, and she made her own decision." He also says that he still loves Simpson and he’d "marry her all over again."
