Buying a Sandbox - What You Need To Know
Thinking about buying a sandbox? There are unlimited choices when it comes to shapes, designs and colors for sandboxes and prices range considerably between materials. Here's some handy tips before you buy...
Sand has unique properties being pourable, moldable, and generally great for exploring little minds. Taking some time to decide exactly what style of sandbox suits your needs today, and in the future, will help you make the right decision. Before you spend any money here are your main considerations...
1.How Many Kids- Your kids will ultimately be using the equipment so it is important to purchase something that suits their needs over the long term. Small plastic sandboxes are only really suitable for one child. If you have a couple of children a timber model or D.I.Y unit is recommended.
2. Your Yard- The size of your backyard may determine the type of sandbox and playground equipment you choose. You may want to start with a small timber outdoor play unit that can be added to over time as your kids grow. Remember to allow for plenty of circulation space around any planned play areas. If you only have a courtyard then a plastic or elevated sandbox may be the answer.
3. Budget- Sandboxes vary in price from small plastic models right up to full timber outdoor sets- anywhere from $50-$1000. Timber sandboxes and outdoor play equipment are built to last and have visual appeal but will require a larger initial outlay. If you are purchasing a large outdoor play set don't forget to factor delivery and installation into your budget too. Smaller plastic models are great for one small child, and are convenient and portable, but will be outgrown fairly quickly.
