Solid pitching fuels Yanks over Blue Jays
The Yankees won Thursday' game, thanks to the solid piching of Jeff Weaver, and the home runs of Alfonso Soriano, Raul Mondesi, and the double by Hideki Matsui. The Yankees are 12-3 and look to get back to the promise land.
The New York Yankees entered their game Thursday night coming off their third loss of the season, and they were hungry for a win. By the end of the evening, they more than satisfied their appetite with a 4-0 shutout of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The shaky Jeff Weaver took the mound for New York and pitched a gem. He scattered three hits in 7-2/3 innings, while fanning six batters. gem.
On the other side of the ball, the Yankees bats came alive.
In the fifth inning, tied at zero, New York's Raul Mondesi stepped up to the plate and drove one into the left field bleachers for his third home run of the year.
The Yankees took a 1-0 lead, which would prove to be all Weaver needed.
Alfonso Soriano went yard in the sixth to extend the lead to 2-0. Soriano hit his fifth bomb of the year.
Then later in the sixth inning, Hideki Matsui stepped to the plate with the bases juiced. Matsui delivered once again by smacking a double into right field, scoring Todd Zeille and Jason Giambi to put the Yankees up 4-0. Matsui leads the Yankees with 16 RBI's.
Chris Hammond of the Yankees would go on to pitch the rest of the game, going 1-1/3 innings and holding the Jays to nothing.
The Yankees are 12-3 and looking to get back to the World Series and capture their 27th World Series.

I was glad I made the early adjustment and didn't wait until the fourth or fifth inning to figure it out."...
