Italy: Sicily: Getting Acquainted With Its Beauty and Its Rich Tradition

While most people know of Sicily, few are fortunate enough to be acquainted with its beauty and its rich tradition, which it owes to its multi-cultural past.
Sitting in the Mediterranean just to the southwest of mainland Italy, the island of Sicily has much to offer to just about any traveler, particularly so if that traveler happens to be keen on ancient historical monuments, breath-taking landscapes, a spectacular climate and a rich and varied cuisine. Having at one time or another been the dominion of many of the Mediterranean’s ancient and great civilizations, the ruins which adorn Sicily are a living link to its mixed past. From the ancient Greek theater at Taormina to the charming Norman castle at Erice, to the beauty of seaside Trapani enjoyed by the ancient Elymian people, Sicily has much to offer in the way of natural beauty. Clearly, given the beauty of Sicilian landscapes, it is not difficult to see what attracted these ancients to one of the Mediterranean’s largest islands. For these very same reasons, Sicily continues to attract admiring visitors from around the world right up to this very day.

In addition, there is the cultural mixed-bag of Sicilian cuisine. While Sicily is typically Italian, there is also a strong foreign influence that complements the island’s traditional Italian fare delightfully. One of the main influences on Sicilian cuisine was Arabian and Northern Africa, as Sicily was long the dominion of these peoples. Their influence on Sicily’s cuisine as well as the over-all beauty of this island only greaten its charm.

In short, for whatever it may be that you wish to find in Sicily, there is a good chance that you will find it and also a good chance that you will return again to enjoy its rich historical tradition which can still be enjoyed today.
