What Do You See

The struggle to grab the carrot of parental love.
When you look at me what do you see?
A harsh reminder of a hated past…
A body like the one you scorned…

When you look at me what do you see?
One who has accepted you all along…
One who has had your back, been your cover…
When you look at me what do you see?
Is it my shame or your own?
When you look at me what do you see?

When you look at me what do you see?
The one to whom you gave birth?
Are you reminded of too much of what you were?
When you look at me what do you see?
