According to Key West police Chief Bill Mauldin, Carter, an assistant, and two young women spent the night at the home of Tom Oosterhoudt, a former city commissioner and friend of Carter's, on March 27th. The woman claims the assault happened at around midnight. No details of the assault have been released. Reportedly the two young women were vacationing in Key West and upon their return to their home in Waukesga County, Wisconsin one of the women went to the police to lodge a complaint against the singer.
Carter, 27, has hired Marathon lawyer Jay Hershoff and Miami Attorney John Sale to represent him. Hershoff said, "Any allegation of sexual assault by Mr. Carter is absolutely not true. When it is all said and done there should not be an arrest or an indictment. He [Carter] vehemently denies this." The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office has been relaying all the information to Carter's lawyers.
Oosterhoudt has been friends with Carter for years and has defended his friend by saying, "Nick is a world-class musician who just got off tour with the Backstreet Boys. He has hundreds of women waiting for him after concerts. Nothing happened. This is ridiculous. It is just incomprehensible...If this wasn't Nick Carter this would be yesterday's news." He added that they are "totally cooperating with the investigation." This is not the first time there have been rumors of Carter's abusive behavior. In July 2004 it was rumored that Carter had left his ex-girlfriend with a bruised arms and a fat lip after they had an altercation. Carter's camp slammed the reports at the time calling them "absolutely false and defamatory" and Hilton never gave up the real story.
