Oldies

The lies we hear and the lies we tell that are universal.
It hit me like a ton of bricks,
Crashing on my head.
Those old clichés
We have heard,
Have more of truth in them
Than we thought we’d ever see.
"Don’t spit in the wind."
"No moss on a rolling stone."
"You cannot hide from God."
There are those lies,
We have heard as well.
If we admit it,
Are likely to tell:
"I’ll still respect you in the morning,"
"Easy monthly payments."
"The check is in the mail."
