A Long Line

A look back at life from the down hill side.
It’s been a long line I have followed,
Traveled here and traveled there
But never getting anywhere.

A long line of sorrows.
Too many yesterdays,
Not enough tomorrows.

By the time we learn the game
The rules have all changed.
The game never stays the same.

A long line of sorrows,
Too many yesterdays,
Not enough tomorrows.

The more we chase the phantom
The less we see our future,
We appear to live at random.

A long line of sorrows.
Too many yesterdays
Not enough tomorrows.

I have chased the carrot on the stick.
I have sought love and approval…
All you gave me was another swift kick.

A long line of sorrows.
Too many yesterdays
Not enough tomorrows.
