So far, the New Jersey Devils are the only team in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs to win two straight games.
So far, the New Jersey Devils are the only team to lead 2- 0 in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
In the first game New Jersey won 2-1. Martin Brodeur, New Jersey's goalie, managed to make 26 saves during the game.
Brodeur commented, "We're used to having tight games, we've been playing them all year and we've prepared for it in the playoffs. We definitely played a solid game, and we got the first goal, which is always nice."
Brodeur lost his chance for a shutout when the Boston Bruins defenseman Bryan Berard scored a goal 3:30 into the third period. It was Berard's first postseason goal since 1999.
The Bruins remained confident after the first game. The Bruins' captain Joe Thornton stated, "If Steve also continues to play the way he did in goal, we'll be fine."
Game 2 went just as smoothly for the Devils and just as roughly for the Bruins. The Devils won 4-2. Brodeur made 24 saves in the game.
The game became intense during the second period when the referees handed out 10 penalties, with four for roughing.
The most memorable moment in the game was probably the hit in which the New Jersey Devils' defenseman Scott Stevens leveled the Bruins' Mike Knuble at the blue line.
"A couple of power-play goals against us is what really cost us tonight," Knuble said after the game. "I thought out power play was pretty good, but their power play was very sharp."
Both games were entertaining and fast paced, and more of the same is expected during the rest of the series.
