My Wife

A poem about love at first sight. I went to lunch, walked down the street...
I went to lunch, walked down the street
November ninety five
Warm sunny day, downtown St Pete
Just glad to be alive

Me and Scott was coming back
Had hot dogs and a coke
I saw this big leg southern girl
And approached her for a joke

I walked up to her, caught her eye
And stopped her in her tracks
The intersection light was green
She melted like hot wax

"excuse me, are you married" was
the line that I threw out
she told me no,… looked in my eyes
knew I won’t wearin a disguise
and oh so much to my surprise
my heart told me to recognize
that fate had given me a prize

we spent the next few weeks involved
in picnics, dates and talks
in family introductions and
on sunset beach front walks

bout three months later we began
to share the same home roof
we lived together happily
and felt that that was proof

got married at the courthouse and
weekend honeymooned in the Keys
bought and sold a goldmine house
to keep us off our knees

our kids are grown, our bills are paid
got money in the bank
Got BMW his and hers
And only God to thank

Poised for grandkids, pensions and
Growing old and loving life
Her name is Shelia, she so fine
My heart, my soul, my wife
