The Avanti Eco Egg Mini, A Compact Washing Machine Only 18" High
Perfect for small living spaces or small clothing, the Avanti Eco Egg Mini is convenient and easy to use, and all you need is a sink. But be sure you know what you’re getting.
Almost out of clean boxers? Might be time to haul out the egg! The new Avanti Eco Egg Mini is a marvel of laundry technology that college students and RVers the world over may find essential. This fully automatic mini washing machine is only 18 inches high, it’s shaped like a funny little egg, and it weighs only 13 pounds, so it’s easy to stash away in a closet when you aren’t using it. The machine is designed to be used on a kitchen or bathroom countertop, and it comes with all the required adapters, including a faucet adapter for convenient attachment to bathtub, sink, or kitchen faucets. The ease of using it on a countertop makes it possible to avoid the bending and stooping necessary when using full-sized washing machines.
The machine can do a 2-pound load in a little more than 30 minutes, and it can easily handle a shirt, delicate lingerie or underwear, socks, or other lightweight clothing. You’d still need a large machine for towels and sheets, but for small spaces such as dorm rooms or mobile homes, the Eco Egg Mini is the perfect solution for little loads in between visits to the laundromat. The diminutive washer has five lighted indicators on touchpad controls, and automatic electronic settings for Wash, Rinse, Auto Wash, Auto Rinse, Soak Wash, and Drain. Inlet and drain hoses are included. The machine is UL listed and uses 120 Volt AC 60Hz power.
Although there are quite a few innovative and helpful features of the Eco Egg Mini, there are a few drawbacks as well. There is no spin cycle because the machine is designed for delicate fabrics. Although the lack of this feature doesn’t bother most people, for some people it makes the product less appealing. Most of the negative online reviews of the Eco Egg Mini talk about the disappointment users felt when they found out that after the washing stops, they have to wring out their own clothes by hand. For some users, the tiny washer may be novel, but it doesn’t save time or expense if they could have washed the clothes by hand in the sink just as easily. A few people had problems with the hose connectors not fastening to their faucets securely. But other users, particularly college students, have been so taken by the cuteness and compactness of the Eco Egg Mini that their comments about it are glowing. Because the product is still new, there are few reviews available online, but its growing popularity will certainly increase the number of user comments as it becomes more well known.
The Eco Egg Mini is currently available online only, and it only comes in white. It sells from about $70 to $130 or more, depending on where you purchase it.
