General: Is Tiger the greatest ever?

There are many arguments as to who is the greatest golfer of all time. Some say Jack Nicklaus, others say Tiger Woods.

One thing is for sure though, Woods is doing some unbelievable things, including winning the World Golf Matchplay Championship last weekend without ever hitting his top form.

What Woods showed during this tournament was just how strong he is mentally. Even when he was outplayed by his opponents, he still managed to beat them, and never really looked like he was going to lose.

It is this kind of mental strength that Nicklaus possessed, and seems to be the main ingredient in becoming a great golfer.

Most people will argue that Woods has better equipment than Nicklaus, or that the competition isn't as tough, but you can only beat what is in front of you, which is something Woods doesn't have any problem in doing.

I think that it is very difficult to compare these two greats of the sport, either by their swing, or the number of tournaments they have won. However, what is possible is to look at what the future holds for Woods, which would seem to be more tournament victories and more major titles.

I don't think there will ever be a clear answer to who is the greatest golfer of all time, but I do think we should just sit back, enjoy the golf and wait for the next superstar to turn up.
