Jones Will Miss Rest of Test Series
Cricket: England fast bowler Simon Jones also unlikely to participate in forthcoming one-day campaign.
England fast bowler Simon Jones has been ruled out of the Test series in India and is unlikely to participate in the one-day campaign which follows.
Jones injured his knee last week during practice in Nagpur, having only just recovered from a six-month lay off with an ankle injury. The bowler left the subcontinent accompanied by captain Michael Vaughan last Tuesday as the tour began in chaotic manner.
"He will begin his rehabilitation program under the supervision of the England physiotherapist Dean Conway this week," read an ECB statement. "At this stage it is thought unlikely that he will be available for the forthcoming one-day series."
Neither Vaughan, whose recurring knee injury will be monitored over the next few weeks, or Marcus Trescothick, granted indefinite leave for personal reasons, are expected to return to the nine-week tour.
Meanwhile, Matthew Hoggard's man-of-the-match performance in the first Test against India has propelled him to fourth in the ICC bowler ratings. Hoggard finished the match yesterday with figures of 7-86. Andrew Flintoff lies just below Hoggard in eighth, while Marcus Trescothick is England best-ranked batsman at nine.
