Stepping Forward!
We’ve learnt that Union is a word that refers to different things for different people. Yoga literally means ‘union’.
Generally when you refer to union in any sense you have this image of everything falling in place in your sub conscious mind. You rarely experience this with your eyes open. Try as much you’ll come up with ecstatic incidents when you interfaced with a union with your eyes closed. When you experience everything as one in your consciousness, then you are a true practitioner of yoga. You may be able to attain this in many ways, Hatha yoga is one of them
The Human Body
The human body has its own attitudes, its own ego, its own nature. Apart from your mind, you’d never understand where the ego lies? You only recognize the ego when you succumb to it! For example you might want to set certain simple goals, like getting up at a definite time. When the alarm rings, you invariably want to shut it and get back to sleep. Thus the alarm rings again and again you follow suit. It is not that you do not want to get up but your body tell you not to. And so it is with your mind that controls it. What are we getting at… Simple that if you think you would like to recognize some sort of Unity in everything you do, both the mind and the body have to be in tandem with each other. Neither can function without getting charged by the other.
Yoga and You
Hatha yoga is a way of working with the body, disciplining the body, purifying the body, and preparing the body for higher levels of energy. All of us are alive and all of us are human beings. But not all of us experience life to the same intensity. This is because our energy levels grossly differentiate us, making us appreciate the perfections of our imperfect selves.
The energy, the chi or as in Yoga terms, the "prana" in each of us is never the same. Thus the vibes that we send across to people also differ greatly. It is these vibes or levels of energies that are responsible for different people to have different levels of intensity. There are various people who have varying levels of temperament. Some are extremely cool headed where as others may not be the same.
When people today talk about not getting along with their partners, it makes me wonder why they do not enroll themselves for Yoga. It isn’t called the way of life for nothing. It is an amalgamation of what you feel, how you feel and also the way you look at life. Amongst the many things that Yoga teaches you, patience is one of them. If you’d notice most exercises for most health freaks is something that they need to prove to someone or the other. Whether it is for you to get back into your old pair of jeans or probably to flirt your figure around, it generally involves competition.
Yogic Lessons
Yoga is perhaps the only exercise which lets you breathe, literally so. Whether it is for learning Pranayam, or mastering and asana, it allows you to take your own time to reach what you’ve aimed for. The reason why we involve ourselves in the discussion of understanding the union through Yoga is quite simple. Like the experiencing of the unison of feelings, Yoga allows you to feel this with open eyes. At a point of time, people who practice Yoga can be as sensitive to understand even the whiff in the air. The whole process of yoga is to take you from something that you know and place you on to the next pedestal, towards the step into the unknown.
If you talk about something that you do not know, either you believe it or don’t! Suppose I were to start talking about God, you would either believe in my story about the existence of God, or shun me totally. When you believe in some thing or theory, you do so when you feel it yourself. Any amount of books can only tell you the theory to understanding how you would ideally feel in a given situation. But until you’ve experienced no amount of books can give you an exact description.
When you talk about your body, you need to understand that there are different types of existent bodies that emit a different type of energy. Much has been said about peace and inner and inner peace. You’ll find very few books on how to find peace. There may be description, yes, but few who can tell you the difference between one body and another, between one soul and another. Yoga makes you balance your mind.
When you practice asanas; it’s more like stretching the wires of a harp; any less and you’ll take more effort and time to get to that position, any more and you’ll feel dejected. When you talk about unision, there are few writers who can actually tell about the unision of mind, body an soul. While performing Asanas, you need to stretch to an extent that you can reach your destined position. Similar to life where time and again you are hard pressed for performing some action that demands your immediate attention.
So what do you do; you stretch. And you’ll be able to stretch without making it felt by the other person, or even without the competition to be taken care of… In short you’ll place all your energies, both known and unknown in your self, unite mind, and your soul and emerge a winner.. No wonder Yoga is considered the way of life!!! So grow out of the shackles of banality, and take a step further, a step towards the enlightenment of the soul!
