Personality, your own self
Reflections about one self can be rather alarming, especially if you live with an unknown heightened self esteem.
Despite what you may call yourself now, the fact of the matter is that you are an amalgamation of what you recognize as ‘yourself’, with certain bits of formation that your mind has collected over a period of time.
You and Yesterday
Personality is often a misused word; misused as many don’t identify it in the same context. It is a certain type of information in your mind. When you say, "I’m a good person," "I’m a bad person," "I am haughty," "I am meek," or whatever the case may be, all of these things are simply certain formations of the mind, in other words, an accumulation of your past.
You simply live through your past. If your past is taken away, nine out of ten times you’ll feel lost. Everything you do or seek to do is largely dependant on the past. Your dreams, your experiences that make you learn and become the person that you are again linked to the past. The point is that it is the previous moment that rules everything. The present moment is part and parcel of how you have lived it then. If you live today to the fullest, you are sure to have better memories in the future when you wish to recall these moments. This would also mean that the present moment may not be as important as you think it should be. The fact that it is based on yesterday, you can be sure to predict the occurrences and the bearings that it may have today!
An additional theory to this is that as long as your personality remains intact, your previous moment also is important. Meaning if you’ve spread enough happiness that lasts you the whole of yesterday, it might even last you for another week, or at least the next day! The present moment does not hold as much importance as much as yourself; interesting thought I must say!
You and Today
At this moment you really have no personality. How you may ask? Well quite simply put, the personality that you truly carry is actually dead! That thing that you put on, a false smile or a cosmetic grin that you use to make up your personality is actually dead thing. When you’re carrying a dead body over your shoulders, you can’t walk very far can you?! You might feel that I am not making sense! Let me explain.. When you build a personality, you do so with the intention of being different. With the ideal goal of being different, obviously the way you deal with things will also be different.
So when incidents that don’t match up with this difference occur, it puts you off. Which simply means that if you are walking with a personality that’s dead, the truth still remains that you are walking with a dead body? Like it or not almost all of us react to things in a different manner; coz we are all born that way! So which way can you head, perhaps only towards the burial ground! If you had to change and make light of your existence, you would not want to carry along all that you have so far! In short, you won’t require "you" to carry a "personality". It will be seen by the others anyways.
Personalities are dead bodies
Consider this.. If you carry a dead body for too long, you will have to bear it’s terrible stench. Your personality, the stronger it is, the more odoriferous it is. You can go far in life only when you can leave your past. More like a snake shedding its skin. Ever noticed how a snake sheds its skin? One moment it is a part of its body and the next moment it sheds its skin and just goes on without turning back. If for every moment, you could be like the snake, leaving the skin behind, can you expect there to be growth of some kind. Living in the past may sound blissful, but I can assure you that it’s not for long. Some day you need to give it up!.
A person who does not carry the previous moment to the present can be bereft of everything. It is then that you can call that person to be a personality in his own right! Within a few moments of meeting you, if people tend trust you to an extent that they might not even have this trust with their own parents, you can be sure that you have let go of the skin of the previous day and moved on. And believe me moving on is far more superior, difficult and yet far satisfying than any other feeling in the world. The whole world has this irrepressible stink, loaded with personalities.
Tears and heart breaks are what you might also face while surfacing to the top. These help you become stronger, physically and mentally and help you reach faster to the top. It’s almost like the cleansing of the soul. And it helps to cry, so don’t be ashamed. There may have been some moments in your life when you felt true compassion towards something or somebody. It is in those moments that your entire persona, of who you are, and what you are, melts into being "you" as unique as God may have made you!
