Depression and the blues

For a lot of us depression means food, for others its personal torture to your own body.
Tackling and understanding depression
You may feel an absolute sense of failure, or may experience a string of days when you feel so. Most often men and women confuse serious depression to be a part of PMS. When in actuality depression commences once you keep digging up the past and are left with an absolute feeling of failure. This also happens when you have a low self-esteem. What you currently face is the depression. Depression today, in general is the hot favorite topic amongst many as it’s only now that it is gaining importance. Of course it isn’t the healthiest of all attitudes in life and if you’re prone to eating just about anything, then you’d better watch out.

Depression Symptoms
The general symptoms of depression may vary from person to person. These may include from being totally submissive to getting knocked out in the blue, to even succumbing to anything sweet; chocolates for example. Extreme anxiety or fears are some of the natural outcomes of low self-esteem. Painful childhood or parental or physical abuse may also be one of the reasons for a person to feel low about oneself. Guilt and fear of failure add to these feelings even more. In such a situation even if you may know that you are right, you would invariably feel that you are wrong. Fear, like guilt holds you from doing thinking rightly. Clarity of thought in this situation too betrays you.

It’s interesting to note how well your complete being is wrapped up in negativism. Any amount of help at this stage is not only difficult but almost next to impossible. To live a normal life, as important as it may be for parents to deprive certain things to their children; it is equally important that they encourage them all the same. At times when depression is tough to handle, the patient may have to be hospitalized. The feeling of optimism and practicality in life is as important as deprivation. Most parents feel that their children might be spoilt if they are given everything they ask for. Most kids also fake depression in view of getting their way.

On the other hand there may be certain mishaps in life that may make you feel totally depressed and good-for-nothing. Rape victims and sufferers of wife beating fall in this category. You might feel that suddenly life becomes glum, and difficult to fathom. There may also be disturbed sleep patterns and nightmares that follow suit. Talks about positivity and optimism are of no concern in such a situation. What you need to bear in mind is the fact that all problems in life are mental conditions of oneself. What you think ultimately bears fruit. If you’ve already lived a positive life you are likely to handle the disastrous situation in a better manner.

Although there are no definite reasons why you might suffer from depression, there are a variety of symptoms that can lead you to be this way. Most often people suffering from depression suffer from extremities. Some of their either lose their appetite or suffer from increased hunger pangs. At most times because you are glum, you tend to lose interest in almost everything, from appetite, to loss of interest to loss ox sexual activity. Certain thyroid patients also unnecessarily suffer from depression. Another interesting thing to note is that you may suffer from depression based on the diet that you have.

Heavy rich foods laden with cholesterol make one lazy and unhappy in life. At various points of time the zeal in life goes down thanks to your inactive life. The point is that if you are occupied for a large span of time you are mostly likely not to face any depressive pangs. Hormones apart, realize that you have but one life to live, there are many things that you can have in terms of diet and an active life to battle against all odds, hormones included.

Depression attracts chocolates to your rescue. Chocolates have this distinct feel good factor. It’s understood that chocolates have cocoa, rich in iron and loaded with caffeine. So when you have a chocolate bar, especially the dark variety, you tend to "feel good". This feeling if not curbed can also make you a chocoholic. Basically the iron levels in your body tend to fall once you feel depressed.

Methods in dealing with depression
Depression also slows your pace of doing things. Dealing with depression can be helped. A good and innovative way of dealing with depression is through communication. When you talk to people or indulge in group discussion you can share feelings and collectively find a way of dealing with depression. It’s best if you keep up with your hobbies at this time. In case you are the reserved kind, you can maintain a diary and note down your feelings. Audio visual ways of dealing with things have a benefit of making you aware of dealing and tackling situations. Friends also help in dealing with depression.

With a diary at hand, the more you write, the more you would feel that it’s the same thoughts and actions that keep boomeranging in your mind and the faster you might want to get out of the situation. Physicians can help but only when you want to! Self help still remains the best help. As mentioned earlier, you need to mentally prepare yourself to make a fresh start in life, because life goes on irrespective of whether you want it to be the way it should be or not! Stay positive and talk happiness, the world is sad enough without your woe!
