Sick Leave: Being sick on the job

Being sick on the job can be contagious! It exists in every place around you, including offices.... lets see how!
Some of the many things that irritate human behavior is one when you are taken sick. It's ridiculous to follow it up with the paper work that goes along with it. As if you were to justify as to why you were taken sick! There are various many symptoms that are associated with this syndrome of falling sick on the job. Some of them are enlisted below.

Generally you would associate work with headaches, dizziness, eye strain and sometimes if luck would have it heart aches too. Coughs and colds are a normal phenomenon, its just that ailments like throat irritation, skin irritation, nausea and fatigue are part and parcel of those ailments that go along with work related stresses in a big way.

Symptoms of SBS
Although the cause is unknown really, partly because we tend to take things and symptoms lightly, there may be remedies that are within your reach, especially those that you don’t really take notice of.

For example, there are at times chemical pollutants that harm your lungs, especially if the window near you is facing a factory setting. These keep varying from one organization to the other, but the effects remain the same. This is the case if you are located in or near a jewelry manufacturing company. The chemicals that are required to refine and re-accumulate gold, after the process of Aqua regia, can be dangerous. Since these fumes are poisonous, the possibilities of suffering from bronchitis are high!

The general pollution being high, one is forever prone to coughs and colds. And it is not that there are certain patches that have this. There may be areas with less greenery that can promote this to a higher extent.

Dust mites cause havoc, especially if your organization is too high flung for diverting the time for getting their carpets shampooed and areas dusted. There was one organization that I knew of, who would only have the floor to the director’s chamber vacuumed on a client visit.

With a very high humidity level or in places that are getting reconstructed the effects of dust and dryness in the air can cause allergies in a jiffy.

Some times organizations get land for a cheaper rate and the maintenance of that piece of land becomes an issue, especially for a developing company. Maintaining proper lighting and ventilation facilities become very important as in these companies you’ll find a lot of mezzanine floors that are rather claustrophobic. More often than not, you'll find people of the important posts dealing in the most dingiest of areas.

Avoiding this situation
Pollutants and humidity can be controlled in various ways to reach a substantially great working environment.

While its difficult to vacuum the air, we can have it purifies with additional greenery around us. Adjusting the temperatures around you could also make a difference. There’s little that you could do and if there is, it is probably for the better. Additionally use Ozone friendly products as far as possible. Even if it is the perfume you are using, make sure that it is environmentally friendly. If you are sick with a flu, try not to come to the office. You are likely to spread the germs by just being around in the office there.

Keep a quality check on the cleanliness of the surrounding. Try to have your lunches in the balcony if you have one or even the pantry. Left over food can cause contamination and further pollute the air. If you need to run a professional check on the environment, don’t hesitate to do so.

Get a pest control operation done as frequently as possible. Try and breather the fresh air in the morning while coming to the office. If you think that’s not fresh enough, don’t hesitate to make a note of it and let the authorities know about it. It could save the lives of millions.

Suggest the shampooing of the carpet to be done on regular intervals. For places that deal with precious gemstones that necessarily have carpets that are wall-t-wall types, you'll be sure that it attracts dust faster, leading to a trail of people suffering either from frequent colds or coughs.
