Tunneling Through Pain

At most times while dealing with technological advancements, we tend to overuse the power in our hands, literally so!
Technological Triumphs
Most of the events that have stemmed out of technological development, it has been so thanks to the entrance of life after computers. While computers are a welcome change after the tiresome typewriter, it has its flaws. Of course we get advanced in all sphere of advancement, little realizing the toll that it takes on our health. It is quite true that for the first 20 years or so of your life you chase money.

And while this is true for many of us, we severely neglect our health in doing so. Moving forward when health chases us and money is well spent over dealing with the issue, little do we realize that all of this began with just the click of your mouse! Whatever do I mean! I’ll explain.

It all literally begins from the palm of your hand. If you notice, most of the action takes place from your cozy workstation. At most times whether you are a writer, a technical expert, a programmer or even a homemaker, clattering your way on your keyboard. The organ that most gets effected is your wrist. And for the exceptionally workaholic that you are, here your reward.. Carpal Tunnel Injury, also known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

While you may not realize it, your fingers and the entire area around the wrist, is at risk. At most times you may wonder why this happens! Well this occurs for the simple reason that you choose to use your mouse more than the keys that can easily provide you the short cuts that you so need.

What is this Syndrome
So what is this syndrome all about? Carpal Tunnel is nothing but an overuses wrist. The tendons lying within your wrist get swollen and thanks to long hours of wok, you might feel an immense form of pain that has gathered mirth over the years of being a workaholic. For those who have not yet mastered the art of using short forms, well, here’s are some of the reasons why you should now!.

Ways to lessen the occurrence of the Syndrome
* Make it a habit to use the mouse as less as possible by mastering the short cut keys. If you must use the mouse observe that your table has some support while you type. While working it is quite possible that you get lost and unknowingly damage your wrist.

Since most of use MS Word, its good to master the short cut keys and use them as frequently as possible. This not only makes you feel like a whiz but does a great deal of good to your wrists. While typing you might just run or even allow your fingers to fly across the key board.

* Don’t think and leave your hands in a position that may indicate your brain of typing. Rest you hands on the table while thinking. Although this may seem unnecessary to mention in here, it seldom strikes you when you’re involved in work.

* Write down points as far as possible. Emails have anyways shortened the pace at which you receive and send information, so you are anyways going on a paperless office. It’s best if you can jot down your thoughts on the paper and then proceed with your typing.

This helps you in two ways. While you write down points, you are able to remember them faster, as the strain is on your mind as well as your hands. Secondly, you are able to retain much more information and enjoy your consistent writing; something that you had left far away for your memories of the school.

* Plan your work first and accurately so. Ninety percent of the work that needs to be done is either badly executed or half done. When you plan your work, you can work at your own pace, leaving the aches and pains way behind.

* Position your chair in a way that is at a level best suited for both; yourself and your eyes. How does this affect your wrist you might ask! Well for starters an ill positioned chair may make you fidgety and not allow you to complete the piece of work at the required pace. Secondly because you aren’t comfortable, you’re likely to fly about your fingers at a speed that’s not your usual style, not to mention your eyes that are saved of further strain.

* While positioning yourself can do wonders for your posture, you can also allow ample space for your wrist on the desk that you work from. Resting the wrist can further add more composure, reducing the risk of unknown injury.

* As in most cases, try talking a few breaks from time to time and perform a few desk exercises.

* Medicines of any kind are after all momentary. No amount of medication can really help you get rid of the pain. The same is the case with injections for pain.

* Try using your thinking caps with your hands firmly rested on the ground. If you type in a certain manner, teach yourself to type in a manner that helps you rest your hands on the desk. This may be difficult if you are not used to, it’s never too late to make it a practice.

* Replenishing your body of adequate calcium also helps, in making your bones and muscles strong. This is meant for all age groups and not restricted to women alone. Take heart, after all you have just one life to live, so live healthy and act wisely!
