Russell & Kimora Simmons Split
Rap mogul Russell Simmons and his wife Kimora Lee Simmons are separating according to her publicist.

News of the split comes only a few weeks after Simmons adamantly denied rumors of trouble in paradise. Earlier this month Simmons said, "We have a family together, and you don’t split after that." He even reportedly went so far as to say that they would never split. Now he is singing a different tune. Simmons announced the split in a statement Friday saying, "Kimora and I will remain committed parents and caring friends with great love and admiration for each other. We will also continue to work side by side on a daily basis as partners in all of our businesses."
Rumors of a split have surrounded the couple for the last few months. There have been conflicting reasons cited for the split. One rumor is that Kimora is more interested in running her successful baby clothing line, Baby Phat Clothing, than being a wife and mother. Other sources say that Simmons has a new girl on his arm, 23-year old Denise Vasi. Simmons and Kimora have made public appearances together recently, but it has been rumored that they officially split "some time" ago despite the fact that they still live together.
The couple met in 1992 during fashion week in New York. Kimora was 17 and still in high school and Simmons was 35. At the time that they met, Kimora was modeling for Chanel. Simmons brother, Joey "Reverend Run" Simmons of Run DMC married the couple in St. Bart’s, in December 1998. They have two daughters: Ming, 6, and Aoki, 3. Both daughters model for the Baby Phat clothing line.
