Educating Kids

I am a firm believer of the fact that we are all born as learned people, education only allows us to unlearn principles that textbooks may never teach us in life!

There are many cultures that promote the aspect of education. Many who believe that there are things that we can never learn within the peaceful domain of our houses. In Hindu mythology, in the days gone by, the teachers would quote from huge textbooks made out of some special leaves and there were no textbooks or notebooks that were to be referred from. Most of the time the teachers quoted from their memory and the students were supposed to remember it in the very same manner. The system of examination, although prevalent at the time, allowed for a wholistic approach to education in general. With computers dominating the scene today, despite the education children get today, the level somehow just doesn’t seem to be maintained. I mean there are fewer dictation exams, even fewer essays that are written and moreover, there are some countries, where children cannot think without their personal computers.

The Fate

If I was told at the time to think without the help of the F1 key or the Delete button, it would be difficult for me now, as I have been clattering through on the key board for as long as I can remember now! But for a child to be exposed to so much and yet not gaining any wisdom is really sad. There are many countries who understand that children, because they are like soft clay need to be educated in small jolts instead of making them learn lengthy scriptures. Thank God for that! But in some places, especially some Asian patches, children are literally thrown in to miniature play schools and pre-Montessori schools so that they can gel along with the others and take up the brutal task of educating themselves.

I don’t wish to say that educating a child is a wrong thing, but the way it is administered is as important. We feed them with facts and instances that are sometimes really unrealistic! It’s a pity we cannot get back and change the hands of the clock and let them remain kids, playing and singing their world, undeterred by our worldly woes!

Actually the beauty of the child is to remain one, not educate them and fill incopious pages of the notebooks only to get some of the desired results every parent would want his or her child to have. I'd say let them grow! The joy of nurturing nature's gift is not by instructing them with books at such tender ages. books will eventually come in the picture, its just a matter of time!
