Wesley Snipes' Paternity Woes
A Manhattan Family Court judge has issued an arrest warrant for actor Wesley Snipes after he twice failed to submit to a paternity test.
An Indiana woman, Lanise Pettis, claims that Snipes fathered her 3-year old son Israel. Pettis, a former cocaine addict and prostitute, claims the child was conceived in 2000 in a Chicago crack house where she says her and Snipes had sex. Snipes denies that he is the father of her child, but he also refuses to submit to the paternity test. Pettis says, "I don't think he might be the father because he's refused the test. It's because he and I had sexual activity."
Pettis also wonders why he refuses to submit to the test saying, "I would have though that anyone who has denied it to the hilt would have done anything to clear his name." Good point! If you know you aren't the father, take the test and be done with it. Maybe he fears he just may be the father. And what was he supposedly doing in a crack house? Hmmm...makes you wonder! Sources say that since this is a bench warrant in a civil case, the police would most likely not actively pursue Snipes. David Matlof, Snipes' lawyer, has not made a statement since the warrant was issued.
Snipes, who has been pretty absent from the big screen since appearing in Blade 2, has a big year ahead of him. He is slated to star in three upcoming pictures. He will reprise his role as "Blade" in Blade: Trinity due in theaters in August. He also will star in Nine Livesand John Doe.
