Friend

This is first a poem meant as a remembrance and goodbye to a friend but it turned out as a promise that I'll still be a friend though we're apart and she can always run back to me.
For you my friend this poem was made
In front of you is where it’s laid
A way of thanking a good friend of mine
Of which to me has been so kind

We may not have spent much time together
And we can never be friends forever
But take my word, hold on to these lines
"I will always treasure our precious times"

I’m afraid the time has come
That you, my friend, will soon be gone
After graduation, I know that we
Though it’s hard, must set each other free

Changes are already part of life
And letting go is the bitter part
After that, we’ll meet new friends
To whom our love and trust we lend

I hope they won’t cause you hurt
So before trusting know them first
And if ever they’ll cause you to rend
Remember you have a friend

When all your new friends leave you
Betrayed your trust, that’s what they do
Don’t you waste your tears to them
They’re not worth it my friend

I’ll welcome you with open arms
So come to me, you’ll be calm
With me, you can rest and find peace
I’ll shelter you from harm like trees

Just as a friend that I am
That’s the way I want it done
And now it’s up to you
If you want to choose it too
