A British soldier has been killed and three others injured in a traffic accident in Afghanistan, it was reported today.
The accident happened in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand province, Reuters quoted provincial police chief Abdur Rahman as saying.
"The car the British soldiers were in crashed with a truck," he said.
A British military spokesman in Afghanistan said he had no information about the incident, while a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defence said they were aware of the report but also had no details.
British forces are building up in Helmand and a base, Camp Bastion, is being built outside Lashkar Gar prior to the arrival of around 3,000 British combat troops. The troops will be deployed there through the summer.
The UK is taking over peacekeeping and counter-narcotics operations in the volatile area as part of a Nato mission.
British forces are relieving US troops who are focusing on hunting Taliban and al-Qaida militants.
